First of all thanks to Angela O for being an excellent workshop coordinator. The Walking Foot WOW! Workshop with Mel Beach was her swan song as she steps down from a few years of volunteering and takes a well deserved break.
The workshop was held at Grace Lutheran on Saturday (thanks for
arranging the space, Mary C!). The task was to learn to use to the
walking foot to create a sampler (or two) of several different quilting
patterns. Most of the patterns were straight line, but Mel included some
gentle curves as well.
Mel was well organized and had obviously worked hard to develop her handouts.
The workshop was organized so that the group would get together to learn information then go to the machines to practice. There was a lot of back and forth, which was great because it encouraged everyone to take breaks.
Mel covered taking breaks and caring for your body in addition to using tape to mark, tips and tricks for pivoting, decorative stitches and much more.
This is a good basic workshop on machine quilting taught by a calm and well prepared instructor.
You can read more about Mel's thoughts on her blog post.

After that fantastic talk at our September meeting, we
are all excited to try out the scores from Sherri's book, so we are
having a workshop with her!!!
Here are the details:

What: Improvising From a Score with Sherri Lynn Wood (http://daintytime.net/)
Date: Sunday, October 11, 2015,10am-4:30pm now at
9:30am-4:30pm!!!
Location: Always Quilting, 4230 Olympic Ave, San Mateo
Cost: $80 per person (does NOT include lunch)
With jazz music, a score, or lead sheet, indicates basic chord changes and arrangements of a song without specifying how the song should be performed. Now imagine a score written to perform a quilt! In this ruler-free improv workshop participants will explore the FUNDAMENTAL concept to flexible patterning and improvisational process: How to set limits that support your creative flow. This is the KEY principle for creating and following your own patterns. Finding your flow not only feels super good, it actually replaces the need of having to work from a plan.
There will also be a separate guild-wide round robin using this book. Please purchase it.
If you're interested in attending, there are still a very few spots left. Please reply to this post or send Angela an email or Ning message and she'll work with you on signing up.
Please note that if you have already signed up, but not yet paid, you need to pay ASAP. Contact Angela.

B-A-M Demo Series - Finishing Your Quilt
by Rhonda
It's hard to believe but it's time for the 4th and final installment of the B-A-M Demo Series - Finishing Your Quilt.
I'm looking for one or more volunteers to do a demo on binding or labeling.
Do you have a set of tried-and-true binding tips, tools, and tricks?
Have you tried an out-of-the-ordinary binding technique recently?
Would you like to demo your favorite labeling technique(s)?
Something simple? Something EXTREME? We're up for anything!
Send me a message via the Forum if you would like to volunteer to do a demo at the November meeting.

Dyeing Workshop Report
by Angela
It was another successful first for BAMQG when 11 members joined Joy-Lily on Saturday, July 28th, for a fabric dyeing workshop. All of us had done little to no fabric dyeing in the past, so we were all eager and excited to jump in. We tried our hands at many different types of dyeing thanks to Joy-Lily’s guidance and expertise. We made some solids, clipped all sorts of items to fabric to make patterns and did some shibori, parfait and gradient dyeing. At the end of the day, we used the leftover dyes to make jar dyed fabrics which came out as surprises to us later at home. Joy-Lily packed in so many techniques and fun into one day and we all came out with so much beautiful fabric. Most of all, we all had “buckets” of fun and are “dyeing” to do it again!
