Members Exhibit Quilts

During December 2014 member of the Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild will exhibit our quilts in an exhibit called "MOST MODERN."

The Quilts are hanging at the Los Altos Library, 13 S. San Antonio Road in Los Altos and are available to view during regular library hours.  There is no entry fee.

One of the benefits of such an exhibit is that people who would normally not have the opportunity to see quilts as art get to see them in a setting that is not scary.

A team of guild volunteers led by Peggy did the hanging of the quilts on December 1.

Thanks to Peggy L for organizing and hanging and the Los Altos Public Library for the opportunity.

Winter Extravaganza!

Claire told us that the 501(c)(3) paperwork has been put in. That is a ton of work and GREAT news.

Meetings
  • The meetings in 2015 are all scheduled to be at the Redwood City Public Library Community Room. The one that might change is the December Holiday Extravaganza because of the Redwood City parade that usually coincides with our meeting. Stay tuned on the BAMQG blog for updates.
  • Sew Day: January 3, 2015 at Los Altos Public Library
  • Charity Sew Day: February 2015 at Los Altos Public Library. Probably the first Saturday. Stay tuned on the BAMQG blog for updates.

Quilty Happenings
  • Amish Exhibit at San Jose Museum Quilts & Textiles. Reception is on 12/7/2014 from 2-4, though SJMQT members and the artists are welcome to a walk through starting at 1pm.
  • BAMQG members have a show up at the Los Altos Public Library through December 31, 2014. It is open during library hours
  • CQFA Members have a show at the Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library in the Wallace Stegner Environmental Center. I have 3 quilts there! Through April.
  • Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association show will be in March or April and the BAMQG will have a big presence, both in quilts and helping out.

Events
  • There will be three speakers next year, Stacy Lynn Wood, the lady from Peppermint Pinwheel and another, as yet to be named, national speaker. Buy or renew your membership to join that fun.
There was a prize drawing for the UFO Challenge and I won a spool of Aurifil thread! Yay! I can totally use that. There is a super prize in January and I can't wait to see what that is. I hope I don't have to be present to win as I can't make that meeting.
BAMQG 2014 Swap Items
BAMQG 2014 Swap Items
The Holiday Swap was awesome. The gifties were much to be admired.

I didn't take a picture of the food, but the committee did an awesome job. There are now five of us who eat a GF diet, so there were plenty of GF goodies of which to partake. I had some yummy chocolate thing that Claire made. Yay for chocolate!

Quick Review of Last Meeting

The next meeting will be held on December 6 and will start at 10 am for sewing, then adjourn at 1230 for the regular meeting, which will include a festive winter interlude, meeting and swap of gifts (if you signed up).Sewing will commence, again, after the meeting and will continue until 11pm. If you plan on coming after 6pm, let someone know as people often leave when the library closes if they think they will be alone.

The Board is pretty much set, but there are still volunteer opportunities. The guild needs a challenge coordinator, meeting activities coordinator. The Elections are unopposed. There will be a multitude of discreet opportunities to volunteer, so keep your eyes open if you cannot commit to a whole year. In order for the guild to function, we need all hands on deck!

Need volunteers to hang quilts in January when the Amish exhibit changes.
.
The festive winter interlude swap is already in progress.

Peggy (the Awesome) already has 27 entries for the Los Altos Library exhibit. If you want to help, contact Peggy about helping to hang quilts next week.

Charity - Karen volunteered to take quilts as the guild make them so we don't have to store them. Over 90 quilts were already donated this year. Claire made a materials log.  If you donate all or part of quilt, write it down on the log and you will get a receipt suitable for taxes at the end of the year.

February 7 is the next charity sew day

QuiltCon entries are now open for the quilt show.

SCVQA show is in March. BAMQG has once again been invited to participate. The guild will need help setting up. Look for notice about this fun and useful activity!

The CQFA show is now up at the San Francisco Public Library. The main library is easily accessible via BART (exit at Civic Center).

After the meeting Kevin Kosbab spoke about Mid Century Modern quilts. His work can be viewed at:

Opportunity Blocks

Hello Wonderful Members!
Many of you have taken home free fabric to make squares for the 2015 Opportunity Quilt, and we are so excited to see what you make!  This is just a friendly reminder that the squares are *due* at this month's October meeting, 10/18 from 1-5pm at the Downtown Redwood City Library.  So finish 'em up and bring 'em on in, and show those pretty ladies off at Show n' Tell!
If, for whatever reason, you can't finish the squares, please bring the fabric back to the meeting so those who are finishing up the quilt can use it for the quilt.  And if you have any questions or concerns, please email the lovely Ruth B. via a comment or the Ning Members network.
Thanks, fabulous members, for all you do!
Amanda M.
