Half Square Triangle Charity Block

by Michelle B.

Hello all!

If you missed the February meeting, the current charity project is half square triangles (HSTs).  The guild bought a bunch of fabric from the Intrepid Thread.  We cut it into 6.5 inch squares which were available for people to take home from the last meeting.  Now everyone is feverishly sewing all those squares into HSTs, right?  ( Draw a diagonal line on the back of one square.  Pin a light and a dark square right sides together.  Sew 1/4 inch seam to the left and the right of the diagonal line.  Cut on the diagonal and... Voila!  You have two HSTs.)

So, how are those half square triangles coming? It doesn't take very long to sew them together.  The tricky part will be getting all those HSTs back to the meeting at the Los Altos Library on March 15 so we can play around with quilt design, which is why I am writing to you now!

Please bring the HSTs back to the March meeting!

If you want to add other fabrics to the mix, we cut 6.5 inch squares.  Unless you have something specific in mind, we need an equal number of light and dark fabrics.  Here are some examples of what is possible when we use light and dark triangles.  The quilts for the NICU will need 36 HSTs.

Thanks,
Michelle

Here is another way to layout the HSTs: http://christaquiltsblog.com/2014/03/10/modern-x-a-free-pattern-for-modern-quilt-guild-members/
